| Warm Audio has announced the WA-47F and WA-CX12 microphones. The WA-47F is, of course, the manufacturer’s take on the classic U47 FET. The WA-CX12, on the other hand, takes inspiration from the AKG C12 tube condenser microphone.
Warm Audio WA-47F The Warm Audio WA-47F joins the WA-47 and WA-47jr in the manufacturer’s portfolio of Neumann/Telefunken U47 replicas. According to Warm Audio, the large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone can handle high sound pressure levels, which is essential if you’re using it on kick drum like Dave Grohl reportedly likes to do. But the manufacturer says that the WA-47F is excellent on vocals, too.
WA-47F The cardioid capsule with a gold-sputtered diaphragm is a replica of the Neumann K47. The microphone features Fairchild transistors and an output transformer from TAB-Funkenwerk, which is one of the things that set it apart from the cheaper WA-47jr. Besides a -10 dB PAD, the WA-47F offers a switchable low cut filter at 140 Hz. The manufacturer states a maximum SPL of 137 dB (147 dB with 10 dB PAD), a frequency response of 40 Hz to 16 kHz, and an output impedance of 150 Ohms. The WA-47F comes with a wooden carrying case and shock mount. WA-CX12 The second new microphone from Warm Audio is the WA-CX12. It takes clues from the famous AKG C12 multi-pattern tube condenser, which was also marketed with a Telefunken label for a while. The manufacturer claims that it’s an authentic adaptation of the classic, which has been used by The Beatles and Michael Jackson, among many others. You can choose from no less than nine polar patterns, including cardioid, omni, figure-8, and six additional blended patterns.
WA-CX12 The WA-CX12 features a dual-diaphragm capsule modeled after the CK12. Warm Audio says that it’s made of premium components, including a 12AY7 tube, TAB-Funkenwerk output transformer, and high-quality capacitors. The WA-CX12 handles a maximum SPL of up to 149 dB and offers a frequency range of 30 Hz to 20 kHz. The output impedance is 200 Ohms. Included with the microphone is a tweed carrying case, shock mount, external power supply, and a premium 7-pin cable by Gotham.
