Leak! Erica Synths LXR-02 Desktop Drum Synthesizer LXR-02 Sonic Potions released the original LXR drum machine as a DIY kit about 8 years ago. It looks like they’ve teamed up with Erica Synths to produce the long-awaited follow-up. According to the details posted on Sweetwater the LXR-02 is a 6 voice digital drum machine with 7 sequencer tracks, lots of modulation and effects. Designed in an 808 style with a row of 16 steps and level controls over each channel. Each step can have up to 8 sub-divisions giving it a total of 128 steps within a single pattern. One special feature is the ability to morph between presets giving you every combination between merging kits. You can also load new kits via an SD card. Erica Synths LXR-02 The 6 voices are specifically designed for drum production. 3 voices are general-purpose skin-type noises for kicks, toms, and percussion, and the other 3 are tailored to a subtractive snare and clap, an FM percussion voice, and a hi-hat. They say the sound is full of analog character and modern charm but as yet we have no sound demos or video. On the modulation side, each voice gets an LFO, an envelope generator, and a transient generator. You can also use velocity, the FM oscillator, and the step sequencer to modulate any parameter. For live performance, everything is out on the front panel with a mode where you can tweak your beats on the fly, drop-in rolls and accents. Erica Synths LXR-02 For effects, you get three different types of distortion, a delay, Ring Modulation and a compressor. Let’s not forget the 2-pole state-variable filter (LP, HP, BP, unit gain BP, notch, peak, 303-style acid filter), with resonance and drive control. The LXR-02 is shaping up to be a fascinating box of beats. It doesn’t look complicated and the potential of a machine built between Sonic Potions and Erica Synths is quite thrilling.
